A litter of hound mixes from West Virginia were being taken to a local shelter we work with when a volunteer intervened to “save” the young pups from entering the shelter life. The pack of six were taken to a local veterinary office until a rescue could be secured and then they were transported north by various transport volunteers. We agreed to take four of the pups and networked the other two to a local rescue, Muttley Crue, where they are safe and sound in a foster home. They are estimated at 6 weeks old (as of Aug. 1) and will stay in their foster homes until they are 8 weeks of age before they can be adopted.
The puppies we took in are all males and living in foster homes until they are old enough to move to a forever home. They range from 8-10 pounds and we estimate they will be the size of a standard beagle when fully grown. Each puppy has their own unique personality and typical puppy energy, playfulness and willingness to learn. Each foster home has adult dogs to show them the way as the foster parents crate train and house train them.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
