Leia was adopted at our facility a year ago and due to financial hardships her owner is unable to take care of her. She is now in our care and looking for a new home. She has moved into a foster home and we will update her profile soon. In the meantime here is the former history from our last stay with us:

Leia is an active and typical four year old Doberman female. She is red and rust in color and her ears are cropped (her ears are extremely short). She was surrendered to her families veterinarian sighting they could no longer give her the time she required as an active dog who needs exercise. Dobermans are typically extremely active through their adult life and tend to slow down at about 6 years of age (some even longer). Leia is very fit and social with other dogs, humans, kids and cats. She can be a little bossy while playing but we attribute that to a late spay (she was spayed just a week before arriving at our facility) and we anticipate she may gain some weight as her hormones level out. Leia would benefit from having an active owner such as a runner or active family willing to take her places and keep her busy working. She would also benefit from having a fenced in yard although that is not a requirement for her adoption.

FORMER FOSTER HOME REPORT:

Sleeps in the crate at night and is in the crate during the day. Won’t go in the crate willing, but a treat gets her in there. When I let her out of the crate I have to get her by the collar and walk her to the door to go outside. She will pee outside if left out long enough.  She has just started eating almost two cups twice a day. She’s a little bit of a slow eater. She plays well with Bruno but she has been showing signs of being bossy with him. She doesn’t like going up or down full flights of steps but goes in and out of the house (three steps) with no issues. She does like to bark at people and animals walking by the house. She loves taking walks and does pretty well. She does like to pull you at times but not too bad. She doesn’t seem to have too much interest in human food. All in all she’s a really good dog and with a little work would make a great dog.
