McDonald is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and scheduled to be neutered.

For more details about McDonald’s personality and in home behaviors, please read the foster reports below.

Typically our dogs stay in a foster home where we can learn as much about them as possible to assist with our efforts for making the best match with a new home. The adjustment period for every dog is different while they are transitioning into a foster home as well as a forever home. Our foster providers send us their foster reports and the information received is updated on our website throughout the dogs time with us.
Our Foster Provider Program is an integral part of our mission to Respect the Dog. Without fosters, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. We are always actively screening individuals and families to provide our dogs with a safe, structured, foster home to give each dog the time, love and respect they deserve while they are in search of landing their forever home. Foster Provider Dog Report

9/20/2021 (Report by Kelly)

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more depressed dog. It kinda breaks my heart but hopefully with a loving stable home he will do better. Right now he isn’t eating or drinking much. I’ve started mixing the dry food with a little wet food and water to keep him hydrated.

The perfect home for him would be no other dogs (he gets along but is more at ease when I’m outside with him alone vs with the other dog). An older person that wants a lap dog would be perfect because that is his favorite place. He will literally sit in your lap for hours and not move. He showed a little excitement when I brought out a new crinkly toy but only played with it briefly. He doesn’t make a sound UNTIL you put him in the crate, then he barks a little. Nothing that would cause a problem in an apartment building.

He is not housebroken and seems to prefer my patio vs the grass ugh lol. We are working on it. He has not had an accident in the crate but hasn’t spent long periods of time in it.

This little guy just needs a bunch of love and affection.

9/14/2021 (Report by Mat and Katie)

McDonald’s foster is currently working with him on house training. He is having accidents in the home but he will potty outside. He will sit in a crate with his foster Dad’s other Yorkie however he does not like it; he does whine/cry a lot when he is in the crate. This behavior has gotten a little better since coming into the program but it’s a work in progress.  McDonald can walk around the block with his harness on but this activity still seems new to him, as well, so it’s not known how much leash walking he did before arriving at Secondhand Mutts. McDonald’s foster has also been working with him on the “sit” command but he doesn’t know it yet— as previously stated it appears he needs work on all of his basic commands and manners. Finally, McDonald isn’t a fan of car rides but he’s improving. On his last car ride he actually fell asleep!

So, what does McDonald like? Hanging with his human and playing!  McDonald REALLY likes to sit in your lap. So much so, that he dislikes being picked up from his foster Dad’s lap when he is snuggling and he may growl when being moved or approached by others. He also loves to be petted, carried around and playing with toys. McDonald prefers being around smaller dogs. He likes playing with his foster Dad’s other Yorkie but doesn’t like to play with his larger 30- pound dog. So, McDonald would need a no-dog or small dog home only.

McDonald has not shown any food or toy aggression with other animals or humans. But, again, he’ll do what he wants to get to the food including taking things out of the trash. While he does growl a little when he first meets people he settles down after he sniffs. He will also bark/growl at things outside. While he’s outside he doesn’t appear to be a flight risk. In fact, McDonald prefers his human to be outside with him when he goes out to do his business.

Meet-Our-Mutts

We are not open to the public. Our dogs are typically in foster homes. and therefore we ask that you not to come to our facility to meet dogs unless you have an appointment made in advance to do so.

Come to any one of our events featured on our events calendar page which are also posted on our Facebook event page. Event times and locations are subject to change.

We schedule in-store ‘Meet-Our-Mutt’ events twice a month held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. The dogs are chaperoned to the event by volunteers and we typically have the arrangements for which dogs will be on site a few days prior to the event date.

To inquire about which dogs will be at an event send our volunteer in-store events coordinator an email in advance.

Private introductions with a volunteer or the dogs foster provider are arranged after we have received an adoption application.
