Murphy was surrendered to us due to his owner having some sudden health issues. He is a healthy 90# Labrador Retriever mix. He was with his former owner since he was a puppy.  At home he is a very sweet dog who acts like a big oaf, who is turning 7 in July.  Murphy is up to date with all vaccines and he is microchipped. He will need a little work polishing his basic obedience and leash manners. He loves toys, can catch, does not seem super food motivated. Murphy is house trained.

Murphy is attending daytime socialization with his temporary foster sister at The Mutt Hutt. He can be a bit overwhelmed in a large group of dogs at times and would not “need” to continue with regular visits once he is adopted.

FOSTER HOME REPORT:

Murphy has been such an easy house guest! This guy comes off as pretty aloof, and sometimes unsure of himself, but he’s a big lover and likes to get pets and bury his head in your lap.  He is moderate to low energy level and likes to sack out on the dog bed in the living room or in his crate after a short walk.

He has a playful side and loves tennis balls and can catch! He gets along well with his foster dog sister and likes to wrestle with her but is very gentle.  He is very docile and does not show any food aggression or resource guarding. She frequently steals bones right from his mouth and he does not react.  The only thing “aggressive” about this guy is his wagging tail!

He has not been cat tested but his reaction to cats on the street range from aloof to very interested. I think he could be ok with slow introductions. He’s a good watchdog and barks at people outside of the house, but we are set right up against the street.  He has been completely fine with house guests both adult and children. He had three toddlers climbing on him and did not react.

He has had no accidents at all and seems completely potty trained.  He has not been destructive at all and would probably be fine left out in a house but we have been crating him. He lies in his crate on his own but does not love being left alone.  He barks a bit when first left in his crate and sometimes takes 15-20 to settle, but he’s not destructive at all.  He definitely prefers to be by his people.

Murphy needs some work on basic commands. He knows sit and shake, is learning down, stay and heel, but he can pull pretty hard on his leash so we are working on leash manners.  Overall he is really low maintenance and has a good disposition and would make a great addition to any family.
