Rico

ADOPTED! July 1, 2014

Rico is a 4 year old Chocolate Labrador Retriever Mix. His owner unexpectedly passed away and close family members took Rico in. Unable to keep him they reached out to us and we were able to evaluate him and admit him into our program. Rico is new to daycare life and will be socializing with his new friends twice a week until he finds a forever home. He is very active, high energy, could use some basic obedience but overall he’s a happy-go-lucky dog that deserves to find a family who will keep him forever. Rico would probably do best with children over 8 because of his size and until he receives some training to understand boundaries. He is suffering form the changes in his life which are causing him some anxiety but that should go away in time once he’s comfortable. In the meantime, he will be staying with his temporary foster family until he’s adopted.

Rico is up to date on shots, he was recently neutered, he is house trained and in the process of being crate trained.

FOSTER HOME REPORT:
Rico has been a delight – he is house trained and in the process of being crate-trained and leash-trained (as he does have a ‘pull’ currently on leash). He LOVES to fetch and retrieve and is very strong and active and will benefit from being matched with a person or family with time to play. He has demonstrated a gentle temperament – he is currently being fostered with one other large dog and they are getting along well and he has also had play dates with smaller dogs and met and interacted with small children. Rico is very intelligent and eager to please and is seeking structure in his life. He likes commands and quickly learned sit, lie down, stay and high five within a few days. He would be a perfect dog for a young and active family or owner and will prove to be a great, loving and loyal companion with a little patience and structure.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
