Scully

 ADOPTED! February 1, 2014

Scully was transferred from the Richland County Animal Shelter in Mansfield. We work with area shelters and take dogs when they have reached capacity. We’ve had a great relationship with RCAS over the years and always love the dogs that come from their facility. We are especially lucky to work with their wonderful volunteers who see to it their dogs find rescues and forever homes.

Scully is a 5 year old Brussels Griffon/Norfolk Terrier mix. Scully arrived with most of his back end missing fur. He most likely suffered from flea dermatitis from neglect. He went to see Dr. Michelle at Gateway Animal Clinic and is taking three different medications to fix the issue. He is also taking medicated baths twice a week and we hope he will have a brand new coat in about 3 months time. After his visit to Gateway he went to The Mutt Hutt Grooming Salon for his bath and got his face trimmed and nails filed. Then he headed off to his foster home where he will stay and wait until a family comes to meet him and adopts him. ScullySHM_hairloss

FOSTER CARE REPORT:
I can’t say enough about Scully. He’s a wonderful little dude. When we first got home, he met my crew with ease and vigor! His little tail going a 100 wags a minute and quickly joined in the romping and running around the back yard. When I brought him in he went right for the water, then the food and just started munching. He was hungry. He showed a little food bowl aggression, but all I had to do was snap my fingers and say “No Scully” and he stopped! He then took to smelling around and went to “mark” I did the same thing, snap fingers and “No Scully” go outside. He ran right to the sliding doors that he came in through and peed outside. Since then he’s been letting me know when he has to go outside. He gives me two little woof woofs and then runs to the door.

He takes his pills like a champ too. I have those pill pockets and he wolfs them down. Right now after a morning of playing with Scrappy, they are both curled up on the couch with me, snoozing. He knows Sit and Stay, but chooses not to use them too often….lol. Someone out there worked with him, this breaks my heart cuz he’s such a good boy! I love his under bite and he desperately needs braces for his teeth…ha. He lets me clean his paws and I can pick him up, manipulate his mouth, his paws, his ears and no aggression.  He loves to have his head scratched and loves the body massage. He’s very itchy, but I tell him the meds he’s on will help with that greatly. I’m sure he understands!!!

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
