ADOPTED! January 11, 2014

Stewart is a 5+ year old Papillion.  We do not know much history on her other than she was taken in by a shelter outside of Columbus and was living with quite a few dogs. He is a bit scared and will need some time to adjust to her new surroundings. He is transferring to a foster home and we will get a better report her on characteristics and behavior traits in the coming days. Stewart is up to date on shots, neutered and his teeth have been thoroughly cleaned including a few extractions. Stewart was adopted quickly and although we encourage our adopters to try our foster-to-adopt program when its available for one of our dogs the family chose to adopt right out. After having Stewart alone in the home it was determined he could have some separation anxiety associated with being in a home without any other dogs so he was returned. We do believe that his anxiety will not be an issue if he is in a home with at least one other dog to keep him company.

Foster Report:

Stewart (or Stewie, as I’ve been calling him) has adjusted well to my home and has figured out our schedules very quickly. He seems to be a very laid back, well adjusted little dog.
True to his breed he has a big dog attitude in a little dog body. He is not yippie or snappy at all. I haven’t heard him bark even once! He is not intimidated easily and fits right in with my 3 large breed dogs.
He does not chew but he is not 100% house broken yet. Many dogs that come from situations like stewie’s aren’t house broken, but we are working diligently on this issue and he is picking up on it rather quickly. Stewart sleeps quietly in his crate at night and while we are away at work during the day and he has never had an accident in his crate.
He is a very loyal little guy and follows me everywhere I go but he stays out from under your feet and doesn’t trip trip you at all. If I can’t find him all I have to do is turn around!
He is only about 8 pounds, and it’s a good thing because he is happiest when he is curled up on your lap!

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.

Adoption Fee $200
