Read about Wendy’s story here.

Wendy is the survivor of a hoarding situation. Wendy has lived a horrible first 2 years. Litter after litter of pups, tied to a nasty, dirty, dog house, when she is just a puppy herself.  Knowing she was an outside dog we anticipated she would likely test positive for diseases commonly found in dogs in an outside environment. We received the results today she tested positive for Ehrlichia. This is tick-borne infectious disease of dogs that develops in dogs after being bitten by an infected tick. The day after we published Wendy’s rescue story she gave birth to 10 puppies. She is currently nursing and will be staying with her pups through Labor Day. We are accepting applications for Wendy to prepare for finding her a home when all of her pups have weened. She will be spayed by the end of 2019 as part of the adoption contract but this will not prevent us from responsibly placing her in a home.

FOSTER HOME REPORT:

Wendy is a young hound, probably 2-3 years old, and a medium size (40ish pounds).  She’s had a tough life so far but things are definitely looking up.

Wendy loves people and is pretty good with other dogs. She can play enthusiastically so it’s best to be a little careful with small dogs until they know each other. She is learning basic commands (she knows sit, lay down, and stay), working on leash walking and ignoring wildlife, and continuing to improve her manners. She understands “NO” and wants to please. She rides quietly in the car and enjoys seeing the sights or will just go to sleep. She’s pretty much house trained and will pace, go to the door, and bark to go out. She is very treat and praise motivated.
The biggest issue for Wendy is separation anxiety (barking, whining, being nervous) but it’s much better. Crate training is going very well using toys, treats, music, and limited use of anxiety medication. Given the circumstances of her past, this behavior is normal for a hormonal dog that’s gone through a lot. I think, with time and getting settled into a home, this problem will slowly stop.

Wendy is a really nice dog who loves to go for walks, play with squeaky toys, run around with other dogs,  hang out and watch TV, take naps, and just be a great companion. She has a cute personality, can be a little feisty in a fun kind of way, and is an all-around awesome Secondhand Mutt.
