Mary and Whoopi are a bonded pair of females. Mary is an “apple head” Chihuahua and her sister Mary is a larger Chihuahua mix. The pair were found on the streets of Cleveland a few days after the fourth of July holiday and suspected runaways scared from the fireworks. The pair was taken to the local city animal shelter facility and then we took them in on July 12. Nobody came to claim them during their time at the kennel and the dogs were not wearing collars nor did they have microchips to locate an owner. The two were put in separate kennels and originally we had gone there to pull Whoopi who was ready to go and excited to leave. While doing the release we were told she had a sibling (Mary) who was scared and unapproachable. Knowing this personality type all too well and how a dog acting scared is most commonly a product of the environment they are in we went to meet her and successfully coaxed her out of the corner of the rear part of the kennel and got her out.

As soon as Mary was reunited with Whoopi her entire personality changed in an instant. The two girls were elated to be in the car together heading out for their “Freedom Ride” back to our facility.  They were given baths and then introduced to a few new friends to hang out with followed by moving into a foster home where they are currently staying until a home is secured.

The girls have been spayed and they are up to date on shots and now microchipped. Whoopi has quite a bit of weight to loose and we are confident she will succeed.

We are focusing on finding them a home together.
