Ellie was born April 30, 2013. She was purchased from a Lil’ Oinkers, a breeder, in Ohio for $650 and we have been told the parents were in the range of 25-35 pounds. She was spayed, de-wormed, vaccinated and had the needle teeth clipped. The original owner decided to then purchase a second pig as a friend for Ellie, but the newer pig was aggressive with Ellie so she decided to give Ellie up.  In the household there were small dogs as well, but they were gated off away from the pigs. The original owner who purchased her from the breeder found her a home and then that home re-homed her to someone else. She was listed on the “Pets Looking for Homes” in Stark County Facebook group and was adopted by the person who surrendered her to our program. The original owner did not contact the breeder, instead chose to find a home for her on their own. We later found out (from the breeder directly) that she was supposed to legally be returned to them in accordance with their signed contract. Pigs tend to get more depressed the more they are moved around, Ellie was moved into a Secondhand Snouts foster home and will remain there where she is comfortable until she is adopted to a forever home.

The last person to adopt her (the third home) had two dogs and a cat and the Ellie became aggressive toward the dog in the home.  She was living in a home with 2 other dogs, a cat, and 2 kids. The first two weeks she was snippy with the dogs, but never bit. It slowly progressed to where she was breaking the skin on the dogs without being provoked. Ellie is wonderful with children and cats, but cannot be in a household with dogs for both her safety and the dogs’. This is common for pigs. She loves sleeping under the covers at night and snuggling on the couch. During the day, Ellie is crated with a litter box (she is litter box trained). Carpeted stairs are not an issue for her and she’s able to jump on the couch and bed without help. She’s the sweetest girl who loves belly rubs! Ellie is 33 pounds and can expect to grow to be up to 50-60 pounds. Once her last adopter realized this was not a home for Ellie, she reached out to us since she had on history of the breeder and knew we could help.

Ellie is currently in foster care living in a home with other pigs but has been quarantined away from them but is slowly getting introduced to them. We went to see her at her foster home after being there over a month and her aggression behavior is nearly gone. She is a much different pig, she is very social and loving and we believe ready for a new home. We are going to test her with dogs soon and hope she has made improvements there.

She is available for meet and greets with an approved application. Lil’ Oinkers did contact us to confirm Ellie was one of their pigs and wanted her returned to them. We are committed to the animals in our care and we will not re-home/return her as this will only cause more stress for Ellie. We will find her the right forever home so she only has to make one final transition.

Adoption Fee: $250
