Jake arrived from the City of Cleveland Kennel, he was originally a stray and his owner never came to claim him. He waited a few days, scared, and hungry, frightening most of the volunteers who tried to go near him. We were able to win his trust and got him outside to assess his behavior and learned he was a really good dog, one who deserved to find a loving home. He was very underweight and needed medical attention so we took him to Gateway Animal Clinic for an assessment. Jake has kennel cough, common for dogs who are not vaccinated against it and end up in a shelter environment. We got him into a foster home and have already received a half dozen applications from people who want to adopt him.
Jake is doing very well in foster, he’s gained a little weight, he knows sit and stay and come. He’s learned how to run off-leash with a pack of dogs in a controlled setting and has excellent recall. He will be a very good boy, a loyal German Shepherd for someone very special.
We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
Adoption Fee: $250
