KnockersSHM_bodyKnockers sure is a knock-out! This 3-ish year old female, blue and rust, Doberman Pinscher was a stray in the City of Cleveland. She was picked up and taken for a 3-day hold at the Cleveland Animal Control facility and then we took her in to find her a home. We love the Dobes and try our best to rescue them when they end up in shelters. We suspect for obvious reasons Knockers was a breeding bitch tossed out after a recent litter. Her extremely large nipples indicate a recent litter was born. Backyard breeding is a travesty and serves no purpose but to add more dogs into the population and tarnish breed standards on pure breeds. She does show some reaction to possible abuse (she cowers) but it very well could be she just has never been exposed to life. Most breeding bitches are kept in cages and confined to just producing puppy after puppy after puppy. She also walks in circles so this is another indication she was confined.

Knockers will be spayed and introduced to the pack shortly after. In the meantime she will be moved into a foster home. She has met a few other Secondhand Mutts and will continue to socialize with them until a full socialization can occur in the coming weeks.

Knockers has made great progress since being moved to a foster home. She no longer walks in circles and she is a more balanced dog. She has all the traits of a typical Doberman. She would do best in a home with a fenced in yard and would make an excellent running partner for someone who enjoys running and activities. Knockers earned her name for her bulging boobies but since taking her in those have shrunk up nicely and we suspect will disappear in time. Don’t let her sagging, swinging knockers detract you from taking this lovely broad home.

Foster Home Report
Knockers has been living with my 3 dogs and my cat for about 3 weeks. She gets along with everyone but she and my female Dobe recently had a squabble. They both have similar personalities and have some insecurities. Knockers is 100% house trained. I do not have to crate her and she has not destroyed any toys or furniture. She can be left alone for up to 9 hours without an accident or incident. She is a very good watch dog and will alert me to anyone coming into my yard and bark. She knows sit and down and gets very excited for dinner and treats. She does share toys and food nicely and will back off from dominate dogs who do get possessive over food (we tested this). She gets along great with my cat and has never shown any signs of prey drive toward my cat. Knockers loves to snuggle but she is also independent. She would love to sleep in the bed at  your feet but can be very easily directed to a bed anywhere in my house. Overall, she is a great dog with lots of potential.

She will need some work on the leash and some exposure to bikes and lawn mowers. She has met strangers coming into my yard and has no fear or aggression issues toward them. I believe Knockers would do best in a home with kids 10+.

fosterhomeWe are seeking a new foster home for Knockers. If you have a fenced in yard, kids over 10 and want an active dog that loves to snuggle email our volunteers at foster_coordinator@secondhandmutts.org.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.

Adoption Fee $250
