Roberto was found stray in Orville, Ohio and picked up by animal control and taken to Wayne County. His owners did not claim him so he was released to the public and/or rescue and we stepped in to be his caretaker until he could find a home. While at the Wayne County Animal Shelter he was cat tested and is not a dog recommended to live with cats. He moved into a foster home and has received all of his vaccines and we took care of his neuter surgery on 4/10. Roberto is receiving necessary structure, crate training and obedience a confident male dog of his breed should. He is staying with one of our most experienced Doberman handlers/caregivers and is currently living with other dogs in the home including our very own Reggae.

Our Foster Provider Program is an integral part of our mission to Respect the Dog. Without fosters, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. We are always actively screening individuals and families to provide our dogs with a safe, structured, foster home to give each dog the time, love and respect they deserve while they are in search of landing their forever home. For more information click here
Typically our dogs stay in a foster home where we can learn as much about them as possible to assist with our efforts for making the best match with a new home. The adjustment period for every dog is different while they are transitioning into a foster home as well as a forever home. Our foster providers send us their foster reports and the information received is updated on our website throughout the dogs time with us.

Foster Provider Dog Report

Roberto is such a fun and pleasant dog to be around. He is the typical velcro Doberman. He just loves to spending time being close to his people, also loves hugs and giving kisses. Roberto does know some basic commands sit, down and is starting to do very well on a leash and is crate trained. He would do fantastic taking some obedience classes with his new owner. He does very good in the home, he lets you know when he needs to go outside to potty. Does very good with the other female dogs, but can get a little pushy and dominating with males. (no aggression) He loves to chew and play with toys. (Kong, Nylabones and balls) Roberto needs a firm leader.

As with any typical Doberman, but more so male Doberman he is going to test you, to see what he can and can’t get away with. Dobermans are not a breed for everyone, they can’t be stubborn and spiteful, but once you learn to communicate with them,(training is a big part) they are the most loyal and loving dogs. Roberto would do well in a home as a only dog or with a comparable sized and activity level female. Roberto wouldn’t be a good fit for young children, due to his size and energy level. Roberto is a great boy, the right people would be very lucky to have him in their lives.

He is just a good boy, he does have one kinda bad issue and that’s the real problem why I say no small children. He doesn’t like his male part touched. I was investigating which I thought was a lump on his back end and well let’s say I don’t think he was smiling at me, he did calm down quickly and was okay with me soon afterwards. He just gave me a warning. Warnings are good.
