Snoop is an 8 month old male doberman. He arrived to Secondhand Mutts after being surrendered by his former owner. Snoop moved into the home of an experienced doberman foster provider and is currently living with several other large dogs. He is dog social and has been tested with cats. Snoop is also crate trained, in the process of potty training and learning basic commands with the help of his foster parents.

Snoop did have a growth problem when he first came into the rescue. His legs were growing at a very rapid pace and his leg joints seemed larger than they should be. Because of this, his legs are not straight and he has a gangly ataxic gait that causes him to be clumsy and uncoordinated at times. He was switched off high protein puppy food as recommended by his vet in attempts to slow his growth. As a precaution, Snoop was also evaluated by a neurologist and though there were no major concerns found, it was recommended that he avoid stairs until he is more coordinated so he does not accidentally fall and injure himself. The neurologist is hopeful that as he continues to grow, he will become more stable.

Though Snoop is overall a laid back dog, he will need an owner with the patience and commitment necessary to provide him with exercise, structure and leadership.

Snoop is scheduled to be neutered. He is microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. For more information about Snoop, please see the foster report below.

Typically our dogs stay in a foster home where we can learn as much about them as possible to assist with our efforts for making the best match with a new home. The adjustment period for every dog is different while they are transitioning into a foster home as well as a forever home. Our foster providers send us their foster reports and the information received is updated on our website throughout the dogs time with us.
Our Foster Provider Program is an integral part of our mission to Respect the Dog. Without fosters, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. We are always actively screening individuals and families to provide our dogs with a safe, structured, foster home to give each dog the time, love and respect they deserve while they are in search of landing their forever home. Foster Provider Dog Report

Snoop is a very happy and playful puppy. He is going to be (in my opinion) a very large dog. I’m thinking in the neighborhood of 100 pounds or more. He gets along well with all the other large dogs in my home. He definitely loves to romp and play. Snoop is not destructive as long as he has his own things to entertain himself with. He especially loves chewing on his toys, Kong and Nylabones.

He is currently potty training and it is going very well. He walks nicely on a leash and does well out in public when he goes to the pet store and Rural King. At night he sleeps in his crate but would probably do well in a dog bed in his adopters bedroom. That is not an option in my home since I have other dogs. I am working with him on basic commands. Currently he is learning the sit and down commands. We are also working on his recall. He is getting better at all these things and will have them mastered in time.

Snoop has been cat tested and though he does show some interest, he becomes bored very quickly with the cats and moves on to something more entertaining. I think he will do well in a home with cats that are dog friendly. Because he is a large puppy, I think small children (under 6) might not be a good idea right now only because he is very clumsy and a bit mouthy (expected for a puppy his age).

Overall Snoop is a very nice laid back pup. He probably won’t be a ballet dancer when he grows up, but he is so happy with life. He is so easy going and so willing to learn. He is probably one the easiest puppies I’ve ever had. Even so, he needs an adopter that is going to take the time needed to work with him to help reach his potential.

Meet-Our-Mutts

We are not open to the public. Our dogs are typically in foster homes. and therefore we ask that you not to come to our facility to meet dogs unless you have an appointment made in advance to do so.

Come to any one of our events featured on our events calendar page which are also posted on our Facebook event page. Event times and locations are subject to change.

We schedule in-store ‘Meet-Our-Mutt’ events twice a month held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. The dogs are chaperoned to the event by volunteers and we typically have the arrangements for which dogs will be on site a few days prior to the event date.

To inquire about which dogs will be at an event send our volunteer in-store events coordinator an email in advance.

Private introductions with a volunteer or the dogs foster provider are arranged after we have received an adoption application.

The Adoption Application Process

Our dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We carefully review the applications we receive and place our dogs in the home that best matches what is needed for each dog individually.

We are a 100% volunteer operation and ask for your patience while our volunteers process and respond to applications.

Please research the breed or breed mix you are interested in adopting to understand the needs of the breed.

Please continue reading to understand our adoption application screening process.
