Stewie is a 1 year old male doberman. He arrived to Secondhand Mutts in early May as a rescue transfer from Cleveland Animal Care and Control. Stewie moved into the home of an experienced doberman foster provider and is currently living with several other large breed dogs. Stewie loves to romp and play, go for walks, play with toys and run errands with is foster parentsto dog social stores. He is dog social with both male and female dogs, crate trained, house trained and learning basic commands with the help of his foster parents.

Stewie is young and energetic, so he would do best with an owner who has an active lifestyle or someone who is able to allot the time to provide him with plenty of physical exercise and mental stimulation.

Stewie is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. For more information about Stewie, please see the foster report below.

Typically our dogs stay in a foster home where we can learn as much about them as possible to assist with our efforts for making the best match with a new home. The adjustment period for every dog is different while they are transitioning into a foster home as well as a forever home. Our foster providers send us their foster reports and the information received is updated on our website throughout the dogs time with us.
Our Foster Provider Program is an integral part of our mission to Respect the Dog. Without fosters, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. We are always actively screening individuals and families to provide our dogs with a safe, structured, foster home to give each dog the time, love and respect they deserve while they are in search of landing their forever home. Foster Provider Dog Report

Stewie is a long athletic lean boy weighing in at about 70lbs. He’s an all natural Doberman Pinscher with floppy ears and a long skinny tail. He is still quite the puppy at a little over a year old.

Stewie is such a blast! He loves to romp and play. Loves chewing on his toys like Kong and Nylabones. He is very smart and loving. The boy just loves being with his people. He plays nicely with the other dogs, both male or female. While he may get a bit rough at times, he easily calms down with a verbal reminder. Stewie is very tolerant of other dogs that might get a little pushy towards him. He is still a bit naive as far as thinking every other dog around him is there to play with him.

Stewie walks nicely on leash and he knows sit, down and has a very nice recall. He also loves to ride in the car or going out for walks. He does great going into pet friendly stores as well.

Stewie is going to need a leader to keep him out of mischief. Likely due to being taken from his mother too young, he will suckle pillows, but does not chew on them. He also seems to want to steal clothing and such things. Without supervision he could potentially try to eat them, and that could be quite dangerous. He would definitely benefit from positive reinforcement training with his new owner.

We do not have cats ourselves, so I cannot say if he is cat friendly or not. I do think considering his young age, and with the right cat, he would do just fine. Though I would encourage a slow and supervised introduction to be overly cautious.

Stewie is a lot of fun. He will do well in an active home. He would love a backyard with a companion dog to pal around with all day.

Meet-Our-Mutts

We are not open to the public. Our dogs are typically in foster homes. and therefore we ask that you not to come to our facility to meet dogs unless you have an appointment made in advance to do so.

Come to any one of our events featured on our events calendar page which are also posted on our Facebook event page. Event times and locations are subject to change.

We schedule in-store ‘Meet-Our-Mutt’ events twice a month held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. The dogs are chaperoned to the event by volunteers and we typically have the arrangements for which dogs will be on site a few days prior to the event date.

To inquire about which dogs will be at an event send our volunteer in-store events coordinator an email in advance.

Private introductions with a volunteer or the dogs foster provider are arranged after we have received an adoption application.

The Adoption Application Process

Our dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We carefully review the applications we receive and place our dogs in the home that best matches what is needed for each dog individually.

We are a 100% volunteer operation and ask for your patience while our volunteers process and respond to applications.

Please research the breed or breed mix you are interested in adopting to understand the needs of the breed.

Please continue reading to understand our adoption application screening process.
