Stewart is a 2 year old male Bull Terrier. He is very much loved by his family and dog siblings he has been living with since he was a puppy. His mom took him in on a whim when he was 16 weeks old with the intention of fostering him until a home could be found. He crawled his way into her heart and despite the changes in life that have prompted her to put Stewart first she cares very much for him and we are helping her find him a more suitable forever home. His mom is  long time dedicated animal rescue volunteer who has been actively volunteering not only with our organization but others. These decisions are never easy for anyone and this decision certainly has not been easy for his mom. Stewart requires a lot of exercise and attention and his mom works very long hours and wants Stewart to have a better life than what she can provide long term. We fully support this decision to find Stewart a forever home and we are dedicated to keeping him as long as we need until that home is found. We have had him in our network since early December and although he’s met a few folks and attended a couple of adoption events we have exhausted our “underground network” and he is now available to our public supporters.

Stewart would be best matched with a person who knows and understands this breed. He has almost all of the endearing yet somewhat annoying traits. He is a bit stubborn, seems to have select hearing (not really) and would benefit from having another dog in the home to bond with and stay active with. Stewart is a show stopper and everywhere he goes people want to meet him. We are working closely with his owner to choose the best home and ideally (but not mandatory) she would like to be in his life in some way if that can work out. Stewart is a long time client of The Mutt Hutt and grew up in a social environment with dogs and people. Early on he had some issues with food aggression but those issues have seemed to disappear with age. We will certainly provide advise for feeding him around another dog in the home so this problem does not make an appearance again.

Stewart is crate trained and seems to enjoy and know where to go when it’s “crate time”. He is comfortable in his crate and we would recommend (as we do with all of our dogs) that he have a routine and the option to be in a crate since he has grown up having that shelter and security. Most dogs prefer to den and a crate is a perfect solution for that.

Stewart is an active boy and would benefit from having someone who can keep up with his antics and his energy. A fenced  yard is preferred but not mandatory if a daily exercise routine is presented to us. He would love to continue having social outings at The Mutt Hutt if that option is in the cards for his future. Stewart has not been exposed to children for any length of time therefore we would recommend a home without little kids (7 and younger). We are open to a household with children who understand our mission to ‘Respect the dog’.

Stewart is up to date on vaccines, he is neutered and microchipped. He is house trained and crate trained.

Stewart is available to meet with an adoption application submitted in advance for screening.  We anticipate with his breed he will be quite the popular dog and we will pre-screen applications to determine if there is a match and then schedule a meeting with applicants (and their dogs if applicable). Please no phone calls.
