Mama Goose arrived just a week after giving birth in Boone County, West Virginia. She is a very content and happy-go-lucky Labrador Retriever mix. The shelter suspects she made these puppies with the male dog she was found with (a white and brindle pitbull mix) and when the four puppies were born Willy pretty much confirmed that suspicion. Thanks to our wonderful transport and foster network Eric and Alysse, a local couple with an infatuation for puppies and our mission, stepped up with virtually no notice and took in the crew. Eric went above and beyond to build a nesting box for Mama to keep her puppies safe. They even installed a camera system in the puppy quarters complete with sound so that when whining or squealing was going on they could check on the pups without disturbing Mama if human intervention wasn’t necessary.
Mama Goose has been a great mom to her pack and also made good friends with the family resident dogs. The pups were born on March 5th and they will be ready to place into qualified, loving, forever homes the first week of May. The puppies will be attending the first Puppy Basics & Socialization session at The Mutt Hutt Dog Training Center on Saturday, April 28th. They will be receiving their vaccinations on schedule and their spay/neuter surgeries will be scheduled in May or later.
Mama Goose is 2 years old and would make an excellent family pet. She has been exposed to children and dogs and we can schedule a cat test upon request. We certainly hope that she is not overlooked by her cute four-pack of pups as she is just as special, if not more, than they are.
If you are interested in adopting one of the pups please fill out an adoption application. We take all applications into consideration and only give priority to those that have applied before and are determined qualified candidates to adopt. We anticipate there will be a lot of interest in the puppies and would ask that all applicants be respectful of our process and patient with our volunteer’s time.
WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR MARY, WILLY, LUCY AND GRETEL!
